Cavanaugh Lecture Series: Poetry Reading by Dr. Jack Bedell

 Dr. Jack Bedell, the Poet Laureate for the State of Louisiana, will be conducting a free poetry workshop on January 23 from 2:30-4:30pm at the Huie-Delmon House in downtown Alexandria, followed by a free poetry reading from 5:30-7pm, right here at the Alexandria Museum of Art. Dr. Bedell is a Professor of English at Southeastern Louisiana University and the author of nine books, including Call and Response (with Darrell Bourque, 2010), Come Rain, Come Shine (2006), What Passes for Love (2001), Bone-Hollow, True: New & Selected Poems (2013), Elliptic (2016), and Revenant (2016). Figurative Clay Sculptures at River Oaks

"Little World Within" February 14 & 15, 10:30 am - 4 pm, $65 per student Register for workshops with Colorado based painter/sculptor, Katrinia Szyszkoski.  Students will be guided in creating a fun, clay/mixed media figurative sculptures, sculpting, curing, painting, and embellishing facial features and figures. Create a miniature, imaginative clay creature of your choice. Students are welcome to bring any small found objects they might want to incorporate into their piece, i.e, twigs, wire, buttons, bits of textile etc. Students should also bring a small frame, canvas or box that the piece will be affixed to.  Call the Art Center ... read more
