Please join The Arts Council of Central Louisiana on Friday, February 3rd at for a screening of Shake ‘Em On Down, directed by Joe York. This film screening is part of the 2016 – 2017 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers.
 
Southern Circuit is the South’s only tour of filmmakers, providing communities with an interactive way of experiencing independent film. Southern Circuit provides organizations with the opportunity to screen work from emerging filmmakers and some of the medium’s most respected directors. Screenings are scheduled September 2016 through April 2017 throughout the South Arts nine-state region. The Arts Council of Central Louisiana is one of only two screening partners in Louisiana. The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of South Arts. Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
 
 
 
About the film:
Shake ‘Em On Down is the story of Fred McDowell, the godfather of the North Mississippi style of blues and an important influence on the music of the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, RL Burnside, Taj Mahal, and the North Mississipp All Stars.
 
 
 
About the filmmaker:
 
Joe York is a documentary filmmaker and radio producer, with more than a two dozen films to his credit. York is the author of With Signs Following: Photographs from the Southern Religious Roadside, and the 2008 Oxford Film Festival awarded his film, Sorry, We’re Open the Hoka Award for the best Mississippi film. His feature length documentary, Mississippi Innocence, won the audience choice award at the Oxford Film Festival and the Transformative Film award at the Crossroads Film Festival and his most recent project, Pride and Joy, has been seen on PBS stations across the United States. York holds an MA degree in Southern Studies from the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, but his true love is Aubie.
